Job summary

New River Community College (NRCC) seeks a Career Coach to support high school students at Christiansburg High School in the transition to postsecondary education and careers. You will work as a NRCC employee housed in the high school, delivering career guidance, college applications support, and FAFSA assistance to students and families.

Responsibilities include conducting workshops, relating to diverse student needs, and maintaining weekly case-based management reports.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in counseling, education, career and technical education, or related field.
• 2–5 years in educational counseling position(s).
• Ability to relate well to high school students and families.
• Knowledge of financial aid and scholarships; FAFSA and scholarships experience.

Responsibilities

• Relate well to high school students and families and provide personalized guidance.
• Assess skills, interests, and aptitudes for career and postsecondary options.
• Utilize career exploration programs in one‑on‑one, small group, and classroom settings.
• Assist with college applications and financial aid processes.
• Deliver workshops to prepare students for postsecondary education and address barriers.
• Maintain records and report outcomes to the college; participate in professional development.
