Job summary

Soliant is seeking an American Sign Language Interpreter in Minnesota to support a high school student who is Deaf or Hard of Hearing. This contract role centers on facilitating access to instruction and activities through ASL.

You will collaborate with school staff, maintain confidentiality, and adapt interpreting techniques to diverse subjects. Typical hours align with the school day, 8:15 am to 3:05 pm, with health benefits and additional housing/meals options.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL).
• EIPA score 4.0 or higher required in Minnesota.
• Experience interpreting in educational settings, ideally with high school students.
• Knowledge of educational terminology and classroom practices.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and display professionalism.
• Strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, and reliability.

Responsibilities

• Interpret classroom instruction, school events, and extracurricular activities using ASL.
• Collaborate with general and special education staff to support student IEP goals.
• Adjust interpreting techniques and language to fit various subjects and classroom dynamics.
• Foster student independence, engagement, and participation.
• Provide feedback to staff regarding communication needs and strategies.
• Adhere to ethical standards as outlined by interpreting professional organizations.
