Job summary

Finix Payments is seeking a Regulatory Counsel to partner with Product and Sales, shaping regulatory strategy for payments products across the U.S. and Canada. You will analyze complex frameworks, advise on features, and ensure launches comply with laws, card network rules, and sponsor bank requirements.

You will lead regulatory work for gaming-related verticals while collaborating with Compliance and external counsel, helping teams move quickly and confidently in a regulated landscape.

Qualifications

• JD and active bar in at least one U.S. state.
• 5+ years of regulatory focus in payments/fintech or similarly regulated industry.
• Ability to analyze complex multi-jurisdictional regulatory frameworks.
• Experience advising product, sales, or business teams on launches or market entry.
• Working knowledge of U.S. payments regulation, money transmission licensing, FinCEN/BSA/AML, privacy.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; translate ambiguity into clear plans.
• Experience leading cross-functional work with senior stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Serve as primary regulatory advisor to Product and Sales, guiding on designs and deal structures.
• Lead regulatory analysis for new sectors and models, setting minimum requirements before launch.
• Own regulatory strategy for gaming, including state/provincial analysis and licensing needs.
• Partner with Product from concept to launch to embed regulatory requirements into design and terms.
• Support Sales and Partnerships with regulatory diligence and guidance on agreements.
• Translate laws and sponsor bank requirements into clear guidance for teams.
• Monitor regulatory developments in the U.S. and Canada and advise on impact.
• Support sponsor bank and card network relationships on regulatory matters.
• Work with Compliance on licensing, filings, renewals, audits, and exams.
• Engage outside counsel and bring work in-house over time.
• Prepare decision-ready analyses for senior leadership and boards.
