Job summary

University of Washington seeks a Campus Utilities Pipefitter/Steamfitter to support the safe and continuous operation of high energy thermal energy distribution systems across the Seattle campus.

Under supervision, you will troubleshoot, install, repair, and maintain steam and condensate systems, chilled water, and gas distribution while coordinating with contractors and other trades to ensure reliable campus services.

Qualifications

• Completion of a recognized apprenticeship as a plumber/pipefitter/steamfitter, OR full journey status as a plumber/pipefitter/steamfitter in a union, OR four years' applicable work experience.
• Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license may be required.
• Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except where there are legal requirements.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, maintain, inspect, operate, and repair underground high energy thermal energy distribution systems.
• Monitor and operate isolation valves and metering systems to control flow of thermal energy.
• Maintain and keep records of Lock-Out/Tag-Out procedures.
• Prepare systems to be worked on by contractors, including de-energizing and LO/TO procedures.
• Repair and replace steam expansion joints and valves; troubleshoot fail-to-hold situations.
• Cut, fit, fabricate, and assemble pipe systems including large diameter pipe.
• Inspect projects to ensure compliance with local standards and codes and maintain records.
