Job summary

The New York City Department of Sanitation (DSNY) seeks a High Pressure Plant Tender to operate and maintain high‑pressure boilers, incinerators, and related equipment under supervision. You will inspect, test, and repair heating, ventilation, and related systems, reading meters and gauges, and ensuring safe, compliant operation of plant facilities.

Qualifications

• Two years of full-time experience operating and maintaining high pressure boilers or equivalent marine experience within the last ten years.
• Alternatively, one year of the described experience plus relevant trade or vocational high school training; six months credit per year of schooling.

Responsibilities

• Tend high-pressure boilers and incinerators, including oil, gas, or coal-fired systems.
• Inspect, test, repair, and maintain boilers, furnaces, and related auxiliary equipment.
• Read meters and gauges, keep records, and operate controls safely.
• Maintain and clean auxiliary systems (HVAC, refrigeration, air handling).
• Supervise assigned personnel and requisition parts as needed.
