Job summary

Apex Systems, Inc. is seeking a Software Engineer for Simulation Vehicle Modeling in Ann Arbor, MI. This full-time role focuses on building scalable vehicle models and simulation infrastructure for autonomous driving validation and verification.

You will work across architecture, modeling, and tooling, implementing high-fidelity dynamics, validating models, and collaborating with autonomy teams. Remote work options are available, with coordination in a distributed team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in CS/Robotics/Engineering plus 10 years of relevant experience, or Master’s +7 years, or PhD +3 years.
• Experience driving technical consensus across simulation, autonomy, and safety domains.
• Proficient in C within Linux environments and ROS/ROS2 tooling.

Responsibilities

• Own and evolve the technical architecture for scalable vehicle modeling and simulation across vehicle types and sensor platforms.
• Develop high-fidelity truck and vehicle dynamics models (longitudinal, lateral, and transient).
• Define and drive statistical validation metrics for Safety Case claims and autonomy V&V.
• Design and scale robustness testing frameworks including controller/planner interaction testing.
• Design, develop, and maintain high-fidelity simulation platforms for closed-loop evaluation at scale.
• Collaborate with autonomy engineering teams to capture vehicle model requirements for planning and controls.
• Ensure model updates do not regress autonomy V&V performance; define regression frameworks.
• Lead end-to-end software lifecycle activities in C in Linux/ROS/ROS2 environments.
