Job description

Position Title: Heritage Center Greeter and Assistant
Reports To: Angela Kennedy, Executive Director

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

The Visitor Services Student worker(s) will be working at the new Heart of the Hills Heritage Center, Kerr County’s newest history museum that opened on May 9, 2026. It will be an exciting time to help shape programs and visitor experiences for the new Heritage Center. The student worker’s primary responsibilities will include greeting visitors, processing admission, orienting visitors to the museum, and acting as a good ambassador for the museum. Additionally, the student worker will support general administrative tasks, social media marketing, blog posts, and other projects that align with the student worker’s skills and interests. The student worker will work a total of 12 hours weekly during the Heritage Center’s open hours, Tuesday‑Saturday, 10am‑4pm. Shifts during school breaks are available but will not be required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Ability to work with supervisors, volunteers, and visitors of all ages in a mature and responsible manner.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to:
    • Clearly state ideas, present solutions to problems, and communicate with supervisor about any scheduling and job‑related issues as they arise.
    • Greet visitors in a friendly and engaging manner, provide a broad overview of the museum, clearly state admission fees, and be able to answer questions related to the museum’s exhibits, programs, and events.
  • Perform administrative tasks using their personal laptop and basic functions in the Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite.
  • Identify promotional and marketing strategies for the Heritage Center and implement them with support and approval from supervisor.
  • Perform essential duties and additional tasks in a manner which enhances the Heritage Center.
ADDITIONAL REQUIRED EXPECTATIONS
  • Ability to easily pivot from projects as schedules and priorities shift.
  • Interest in and ability to learn new skills, digital programs, and software.
  • Support staff and volunteers in keeping exhibits and interactive components clean, tidy, and prepped for visitor engagement.
  • Light cleaning and dusting of exhibit and program areas as needed.
OPTIONAL DUTIES IF AVAILABLE

Some programs and activities may occur on select Saturdays, with some events requiring working outdoors. Saturday workdays are optional and would be exchanged for a weekday workday. These dates will be scheduled and communicated to the student worker when the student begins.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work will be primarily performed indoors seated at a desk and will require that the student worker provides their own laptop. Student workers must have reliable transportation to/from work for each scheduled shift. Work requires bending, pushing, pulling, stooping, climbing, kneeling, carrying and lifting under 50 lbs. Work requires the ability to communicate verbally and in writing. Work requires the ability to handle multiple concurrent tasks and interruptions. Work entails working alone as well as working closely with others.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED
  • Satisfactory completion of the Spring Semester, not on Academic Probation, and registered for the upcoming Fall Semester.
  • (Certifications, travel, communication skills, computer skills, etc.)
  • Student must have some experience working in a customer-facing role, whether in retail, restaurant, or tourism industry
  • Student must have confidence to introduce themselves and the museum to visitors and be able to treat each visitor in a respectful manner
  • Student must arrive on time, present themselves with a clean and well‑polished appearance, and be able to pivot between tasks as new challenges present themselves.
