Job summary

We are seeking an Advanced Practice Provider at Duke University Hospital in Durham, NC to provide specialized care to adult patients with liver disease, primarily on the general hepatology inpatient service, with potential outpatient GI Day Hospital coverage. Focus areas include advanced liver disease management and transplant-related care.

Primary hours are Monday through Friday, day shift, with flexibility to meet patient and clinical needs.

Qualifications

• Work requires completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, with a Master's degree in Nursing.
• Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program; a Bachelor's degree is required and a Master's degree is strongly preferred.
• Current RN licensure in NC for NP or NC PA licensure is required; BLS/ALS certifications are required.
• 1+ years APP experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Record the history, perform examinations in inpatient and outpatient settings.
• Develop treatment plans in collaboration with physicians as needed.
• Assist with inpatient transplant evaluations.
• Prescribe medications through appropriate channels and manage refills.
• Provide patient and family teaching and education.
• Order labs and procedures and coordinate follow-up.
• Perform paracentesis and coordinate care with other specialists.
• Document encounters in the Epic system and review results.
• Cross-cover for outpatient GI Day Hospital and participate in meetings.

Physician Assistant program; Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree strongly preferred
