University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) is seeking a full-time BC/BE HPB/General Surgeon to join the St. Joseph Medical Center surgical team in Towson, MD.

The role emphasizes complex HPB procedures, multidisciplinary tumor boards, and on-call coverage across a supportive, well-resourced hospital. The ideal candidate will have a fellowship in HPB or surgical oncology, board certification in General Surgery, and licensure to practice in Maryland.

Qualifications

• MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
• Completion of an accredited General Surgery residency.
• Fellowship in HPB and/or Surgical Oncology with HPB experience.
• Board certification (or eligibility) in General Surgery; additional oncology certification a plus.

Responsibilities

• Perform complex hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgeries including hepatectomies and Whipple procedures.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop treatment plans.
• Provide on-call coverage for HPB and general surgery cases.
• Maintain accurate documentation in the electronic medical record (EPIC).
• Engage in quality improvement activities and departmental meetings.

The University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center (UM SJMC), a member of the University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS), is seeking a full-time BC/BE Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic (HPB)/General Surgeon to join our surgical team. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive, high-quality surgical care for patients with benign and malignant diseases of the liver, biliary tract, and pancreas, and will contribute to the growth of a multidisciplinary HPB program as well as participate in the general surgery call requirements.

Job Specifics

Position will be primarily based at St. Joseph Medical Center in Towson, MD.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform complex hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgical procedures, including hepatectomies, pancreaticoduodenectomies (Whipple procedures), distal pancreatectomies, biliary reconstructions, and management of hepatic/biliary malignancies
• Participate in multidisciplinary tumor boards (oncology, radiology, pathology, gastroenterology) to develop individualized treatment plans
• Provide on-call coverage for emergent HPB and general surgery
• Collaborate with interventional radiology, medical oncology, and GI teams on complex case management
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EPIC)
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives, morbidity and mortality conferences, and departmental meetings
• Work Experience Required Qualifications MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school Completion of an accredited General Surgery residency Completion of a fellowship in Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery, Surgical Oncology, or Abdominal Transplant Surgery with significant HPB experience Board certification (or eligibility) in General Surgery; additional certification in Complex General Surgical Oncology is a plus Active or eligible for state medical license DEA registration BLS/ACLS certification

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with minimally invasive/robotic HPB surgery
• Experience building or growing an HPB surgical program
