Job description

Overview

At Virginia Mason Franciscan Health, we believe in the healing power of humanity. We offer opportunities for physicians and advanced practice providers in a variety of settings, from community facilities to nationally recognized centers of excellence. Your humanity has a home here. Virginia Mason Franciscan Health was formed by the integration of two outstanding health systems — CHI Franciscan and Virginia Mason. Virginia Mason Franciscan Health offers a wealth of convenient hospital, clinic, and care locations in western Washington. With more than 18,000 team members and staff and nearly 5,000 employed physicians and affiliated providers, Virginia Mason Franciscan Health provides expert, compassionate medical care at 10 hospitals and nearly 300 care sites throughout the Puget Sound region.

Now is an exciting time to join VMFH Center for Cancer Care. We’re building on our strong foundation of clinical expertise to expand cancer services across the state of Washington and we’re looking for excellent clinicians to join our growing team. Our specialty areas include hematology/oncology, radiation oncology, surgical oncology, and supportive care experts, keeping care local where patients need it most, while offering specialty services at our destination hospitals for complex cancer treatment.

As a physician supporting our growing practices, you will have access to fully established cancer programs with the following features:

  • Our programs are accredited by the multidisciplinary Commission on Cancer (CoC) — a program of the American College of Surgeons that recognizes cancer care programs for their commitment to providing comprehensive, high-quality and multidisciplinary, patient-centered care.
  • A leader in pancreatic cancer for more than 40 years, our pancreatic cancer survival rates are double the national average, as reported by the National Cancer Institute’s Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results Program. We are the only Pancreatic Cancer Center of Excellence in Washington state (certified by the National Pancreas Foundation).
  • This designation signifies that we offer the latest, most advanced options for treating this disease.
  • As the first program in Seattle to receive accreditation from the National Accreditation Program for Rectal Cancer (NAPRC), our Colorectal Cancer Program outperforms the national median in adhering to CoC best-practice standards, according to recent data from the National Cancer Database.
  • Breast cancer quality metrics at VMFH exceed national benchmarks determined by the CoC and the National Quality Forum (NQF). We are also recognized as one of only two programs in both Pierce and King counties to be accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC) for our breast programs at St. Joseph Medical Center and St. Anthony Hospital.
  • We care for the most esophageal cancer patients in the western United States, and seventh most nationally, according to the CoC.
  • Rare neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) are diagnosed and treated here. We use a radio tracer called the Gallium-68 Dotatate scan to fully understand your condition.
  • VMFH is the only system in the Pacific Northwest that offers GammaTile, a new technology that allows for intraoperative radiation treatment of brain tumors.
Responsibilities

We have an exciting opening for an experienced Hematology-Oncology physician to join a growing medical oncology practice in Tacoma, WA. Candidates should be interested in participating on a dynamic team to shape a newly established practice while forming good relationships with our existing employed physician referral network.

Do you value compassion, inclusion, integrity, excellence, and collaboration? Then you will find a home here at VMFH. Our mission is to heal, and our promise is to care. Here’s what we expect from you:
