Qualifications

The Cincinnati, OH VA Medical Center is seeking a PART-TIME Physician to work in the Hematology/Oncology Section at our facility. The primary role is to provide clinical care in Hematology/Oncology to veterans presenting with various cancers. The physician will work 20 hours per week on a flexible schedule.

The Staff Physician - Hematology / Oncology's primary role is to provide clinical care in Hematology / Oncology and to oversee the education of Residents, Fellows, and Medical Students within his/her practice area.

Specialized Experience for Hematology/Oncology Physician includes:

  • Interpret mutational and molecular genetic testing to guide chemotherapeutic agent prescribing.
  • Complete life sustaining therapy conferences with patients and family members.
  • Assess, stabilize, and determine disposition of patients with emergent conditions; treat diseases and disorders of the blood, spleen, lymph glands, and immunologic system, such as anemia, clotting disorders, sickle cell disease, hemophilia, leukemia, and lymph nodes.
  • Administration of chemotherapeutic agents and biological response modifiers through all therapeutic routes.
  • Apheresis procedures.
  • Analyze blood tests manually, including blood count, including platelets and white cell differential.
  • Diagnostic lumbar puncture.
  • Performing bone marrow aspirates, bone marrow biopsies, and touch preparations as well as interpretation of bone marrow biopsies.
  • Diagnostic and Therapeutic paracentesis.
  • Management of indwelling venous access catheters.
  • Therapeutic thoracentesis.

Work Schedule: 20 hours per week

You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment.
  • Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases.
  • Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5-day paid absence for CME).
  • Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA.
  • Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement).
  • Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory.
  • CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification).

Additional Requirement:
