Job summary

Merck is seeking a Clinical Director (Principal Scientist) to lead planning and execution of oncology clinical research with a hematology focus. The role spans from pre-clinical to post-licensure, including study design, execution, regulatory reporting and publication.

The position requires an MD or MD/PhD with 3+ years of clinical medicine experience and 1+ year in industry drug development or biomedical research, plus strong collaboration and communication skills.

Qualifications

• Must have experience in industry or senior faculty in academia.
• Minimum of 3 years of clinical medicine experience.
• Minimum of 1 year of industry experience in drug development or biomedical research experience in academia.
• Demonstrated record of scientific scholarship and achievement.
• Proven track record in clinical medicine and background in biomedical research.
• Strong interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to function in a team environment.
• Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Plan clinical trials and design operational plans aligned with the development strategy.
• Provide medical oversight and overall conduct of ongoing or new trials for investigational or marketed drugs.
• Analyze and summarize clinical findings to support safety, efficacy decisions and regulatory submissions.
• Participate in internal and external research teams relevant to new compounds and marketed drugs.
• Support business development assessments of external opportunities.
• Engage with cross-functional groups to support study execution.
• Travel up to 20 percent to manage projects.
