Reports To: Helpline & Resource Supervisor

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt/Hourly ($18 -$21)

Hours: 8:30 am - 5:00 pm/ Full-Time

About the Role

The Program & Helpline Assistant plays a crucial role in our mission — supporting the success of NAMI’s educational programs and the NAMI Georgia Resource and Helpline. This role is ideal for someone who is organized, empathetic, a strong team-player, and is excited to build lasting relationships within a growing nonprofit organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Helpline Support
    • Maintain an up-to-date database of caller information and resources. Respond to resource-related emails
    • Assist with the Parity Navigator program, helping individuals understand and file insurance parity complaints.
    • Recruit and support Helpline volunteers; step in to assist when volunteers are unavailable.
    • Research and organize Georgia-based mental health resources to keep our information accurate and accessible.
    • Respond to calls and emails from individuals seeking mental health, housing, legal, and community resources, when needed.
    • Complete follow-up communications with individuals requesting assistance, when needed.
  • Program Assistance:
    • Build and assemble training material packets for scheduled sessions
    • Package and ship program materials to participants
    • Maintain inventory of program and training supplies
    • Process invoices for program stipend requests
    • Assist with creating newsletters, social media content, and marketing materials.
    • Assist with program outreach and marketing
    • Maintain program tracking and data sheets, using Microsoft Excel
    • Respond to inquiries in a timely and professional manner
    • Assist program staff with various projects and other duties assigned

What We’re Looking For

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, human services, or a related field — OR — 3–5 years of related experience.

Experience and Skills:

  • A genuine passion for helping people and making a difference.
  • Strong communication and active listening skills.
  • Ability to stay calm and compassionate when helping callers in distress.
  • Knowledge of mental health, developmental disabilities, and Georgia’s mental health system preferred.
  • Experience working with individuals facing mental health challenges is a plus.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and a collaborative spirit.
  • Comfortable with technology, especially Microsoft Office, and database systems like Excel.
