Job summary

The City of Pasadena is seeking an experienced Helicopter Maintenance Technician to inspect, repair, overhaul and service City-owned helicopters in accordance with FAA rules and Pasadena Police Department policies.

The ideal candidate will have a detailed understanding of maintenance, inspection, and repairs on certificated rotorcraft, with an FAA A&P certificate and related experience. The role requires adherence to safety and workflow procedures in a public safety context.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.
• Must possess a valid California class C driver's license.
• A valid Airframe and Power Plant Mechanic's License issued by the FAA is required.

Responsibilities

• Inspects, diagnoses, services and repairs helicopter airframes, engines, transmissions, rotor systems, gear boxes, control assemblies, instrumentation/electrical systems, hydraulic systems, accessories and law enforcement technology systems and equipment, in accordance with manufacturers' manuals, notices, bulletins and FAA Airworthiness Directives.
• Evaluates helicopter fleet safety of flight conditions.
• Reports discrepancies/problems.
• Participates in check flights to aid in aircraft troubleshooting and diagnostics.
• Evaluates maintenance work to be performed in terms of time required, parts needed and costs involved.
• Records and maintains aircraft maintenance records.
• Logs books and other records.
• Ensures safe work practices are used when performing maintenance and repairs.

Job description

The City of Pasadena is seeking an experienced Helicopter Maintenance Technician. This position performs journey-level, skilled technical work inspecting, repairing, overhauling, and servicing City-owned helicopters and related equipment in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration rules and regulations, manufacturer guidelines, and Pasadena Police Department policies and procedures.

The ideal candidate will be detail oriented and have working knowledge of performing a full range of maintenance, inspection and repairs on City owned certificated and non-certificated helicopters. The duties and responsibilities of this class are governed by established maintenance schedules, manufacturer data, and Federal Aviation Administration regulations. Inspections performed by employees of this class are limited to those mechanics who possess a current Airframe and Power Plant Mechanic’s certificate. Employees of this class receive technical supervision but must also exercise prudent and safety-oriented judgment.

Education and Experience

• Graduation from high school or GED equivalent
• At least three years of progressively responsible experience in airframe and power plant aviation and helicopter maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, and inspections of FAA certificated Rotorcraft.

Desired Qualifications

• Experience performing maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of turbine engines on rotorcraft.

Candidates selected for this position are subject to a one-year probationary work period.

• Must possess a valid California Class C driver's license and comply with the City's Motor Vehicle Safety Policy during the course of employment.
• A valid Airframe and Power Plant Mechanic's License issued by the Federal Aviation Administration is required.
• Must provide a rollaway tool cabinet with the required tools to perform general maintenance on helicopter fleet.
• A valid Inspection Authorization Certificate issued by the Federal Aviation Administration is preferred.

Successful completion of a comprehensive background investigation is required which may include a review of employment history, criminal conviction record, credit history, use of intoxicants and/or other controlled substances, and polygraph evaluation.
