Venture Search is partnering with a rapidly growing US hedge fund to appoint a Hedge Fund Controller to lead fund accounting, financial reporting and control functions in New York. The role offers potential progression toward a CFO position within a sophisticated investment management environment.

The successful candidate will own NAV oversight, financial statements, and regulatory reporting across multiple structures, with exposure to London operations and ongoing fund launches.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related discipline.
• CPA qualification strongly preferred; equivalent qualifications may be considered.
• 5–10+ years of relevant experience in fund accounting or financial reporting, ideally within hedge funds or alt investment managers or Big 4.
• Strong understanding of hedge fund accounting, NAV oversight, fund structures, investor allocations and financial reporting.
• Knowledge of US GAAP and investment company accounting standards.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the fund accounting and financial control functions across hedge fund vehicles, managed accounts and related investment structures.
• Review and monitor NAV calculations monthly, quarterly and annually for accuracy and consistency across portfolios.
• Prepare and review financial statements, investor reporting, capital account statements and management company accounts.
• Coordinate the year-end audit process with external auditors and internal stakeholders.
• Oversee regulatory and statutory reporting under US requirements, including SEC, IRS and state obligations.
• Support new fund launches, new investment structures, changes to fund documentation and onboarding of new service providers.
• Provide financial information and analysis to senior management to support strategic decisions.

The Opportunity

Venture Search is currently partnered with a rapidly growing US based Hedge Fund who are seeking an experienced Hedge Fund Controller to join it’s Finance team in New York. Most of the group are located in NYC, however, the team now has a London presence as well.

This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong finance professional to take ownership of key fund accounting, financial reporting and control processes within a sophisticated investment management environment and scope to eventually step up into a CFO position.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the fund accounting and financial control functions across a range of hedge fund vehicles, managed accounts and related investment structures.
• Review and monitor daily, monthly, quarterly and annual NAV calculations, ensuring accuracy and consistency across portfolios.
• Manage the preparation and review of financial statements, investor reporting, capital account statements and management company accounts.
• Coordinate the year-end audit process, working closely with external auditors and internal stakeholders to ensure timely completion.
• Oversee the preparation and filing of regulatory and statutory reports in accordance with applicable US requirements, including relevant SEC, IRS and state-level obligations.
• Support new fund launches, new investment structures, changes to fund documentation and the onboarding of new service providers.
• Provide financial information and analysis to senior management to support strategic and commercial decision-making.

Candidate Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
