Job summary

FITT Scientific, LLC is seeking a Ft. Detrick-based Heavy Vehicle Mechanic to inspect, diagnose, repair and maintain heavy equipment. You’ll work on diesel engines, hydraulics, brakes, electrical systems, and powertrains to keep fleets safe and ready.

The role emphasizes preventive maintenance, accurate documentation, and strict safety practices, with duties ranging from using diagnostic tools to communicating status to supervisors and operators.

Qualifications

• Experience maintaining and repairing heavy equipment, construction equipment, or similar machinery.
• Working knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and diagnostic procedures.
• Ability to read service manuals, schematics, and parts diagrams.
• Ability to use hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and shop equipment safely.
• Valid state driver’s license and ability to obtain and maintain authorization to operate assigned tactical and non-tactical military vehicles.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and scheduled services.
• Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical problems using manuals and diagnostic tools.
• Repair or replace engines, transmissions, pumps, hoses, brakes, and other components.
• Test equipment after repairs and confirm it operates safely.
• Document work performed, parts used, and equipment condition.
• Identify needed repairs and communicate equipment status to supervisors and operators.
• Follow safety procedures when using tools, lifting equipment, and handling fluids.
