Job summary

Bowhead seeks a Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our team at Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Aberdeen, MD. The position focuses on rebuilding and repairing major assemblies of internal combustion vehicles, with duties spanning diagnosis and component overhauls.

Requires a high school diploma or equivalent and 2+ years as a motor vehicle mechanic, plus a valid CDL and forklift license. Strong communication and teamwork skills are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required, plus at least 2+ years’ experience as a motor vehicle mechanic.
• Must possess a valid state-issued CDL and be able to obtain/maintain a forklift license.
• Basic to intermediate MS Office skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
• Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts.
• Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment to work alone or in a team.

Responsibilities

• Analyzes malfunctions.
• Repairs, rebuilds, or overhauls major assemblies of internal combustion automobiles, buses, trucks, or tractors.
• Diagnoses the source of trouble and determines the extent of repairs.
• Replaces worn or broken parts such as piston rings, bearings, or other engine parts.
• Grinds and adjusts valves.
• Rebuilds carburetors.
• Overhauls transmissions.
• Repairs fuel injection, lighting, and ignition systems.
• Other duties as assigned.
