Job summary

Bowhead seeks a Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our Aberdeen Proving Grounds team in Aberdeen, MD. The role supports the Maintenance and Supply Divisions with rebuilding and repairing major assemblies of internal combustion vehicles. A high school diploma or equivalent plus 2+ years of experience is required.

A valid CDL and forklift license must be obtained, and proficiency in MS Office is expected. This position may require obtaining a Public Trust security clearance and citizenship is

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent, plus 2+ years as a motor vehicle mechanic.
• Must possess a valid state-issued CDL and be able to obtain/maintain a forklift license.
• Basic to intermediate level skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
• Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts.
• Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment; able to work alone or in a team.

Responsibilities

• Analyzes malfunctions.
• Repairs, rebuilds, or overhauls major assemblies of internal combustion automobiles, buses, trucks, or tractors.
• Diagnoses the source of trouble and determines the extent of repairs.
• Replaces worn or broken parts such as piston rings, bearings, or other engine parts.
• Grinds and adjusts valves.
• Rebuilds carburetors.
• Overhauls transmissions.
• Repairs fuel injection, lighting, and ignition systems.
• Other duties as assigned.
