  • Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment to work alone or in a team.

Overview

Heavy Equipment Mechanic (EAGLE 2026-25682):

Bowhead seeks a Motor Vehicle Mechanic to join our team in support of the Maintenance and Supply Divisions at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Aberdeen, MD.

The Maintenance Division Motor Vehicle Mechanic performs a combination of tasks to support departmental operations. Typical duties include rebuilding and repairing major assemblies of internal combustion automobiles, buses, trucks, or tractors.

This position is governed by a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), and employees are required to join after beginning employment.

Responsibilities

Essential functions will include:

  • Analyzes malfunctions.
  • Repairs, rebuilds, or overhauls major assemblies of internal combustion automobiles, buses, trucks, or tractors.
  • Diagnoses the source of trouble and determines the extent of repairs required.
  • Replaces worn or broken parts such as piston rings, bearings, or other engine parts.
  • Grinds and adjusts valves.
  • Rebuilds carburetors.
  • Overhauls transmissions.
  • Repairs fuel injection, lighting, and ignition systems.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Must possess a valid state-issued CDL and be able to obtain/maintain a forklift license.
  • Basic to intermediate level skills in Microsoft Office software suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team.

Physical Demands:

  • Bend, Squat, Stoop, Crouch, Lean, Sit, and Balance.
  • Work with power/automated hand tools.
  • Lift/carry/push/slide up to 50 pounds.
  • Stand for long periods of time
  • Repeat the same movements.
  • Work in an automotive repair shop around moving objects, vehicles, machinery with moving parts, and confined spaces.
  • Exposure to adverse excessive noise, weather conditions, exhaust fumes, gasoline, diesel fuel, and other vehicle fluids/lubricants.

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to obtain a security clearance at the Public Trust level. Due to the location of this work, U.S. citizenship is required. Bowhead reserves the right to change this requirement if necessitated by business needs or contractual obligations.
