Job summary

City of Farmington, NM is seeking a Heavy Truck and Equipment Mechanic to service and repair the city’s fleet at the MOC VM Shop. The role involves preventive maintenance, diagnostic testing, and complex mechanical repairs across multiple systems.

Ideal candidates will have a high school diploma or GED with specialized mechanics training, ASE certifications within 9 months, and a valid CDL or ability to obtain one within nine months.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED plus specialized mechanic training.
• Valid driver’s license; CDL required or achievable within 9 months.
• ASE certifications required within 9 months of hire.
• Three years of related experience or equivalent.
• Thorough knowledge of diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
• Must be able to work on a 24-hour on-call schedule and report within 30 minutes of call.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
• Repair brakes, engines, electrical, fuel, transmission, and related systems.
• Operate diagnostic scan tools and a range of hand/electric/air tools.
• Maintain accurate work orders and maintenance records.
• Coordinate daily work assignments and communicate safety concerns.
• Provide emergency field assistance as needed.

Education

High school diploma or GED

Specialized training in mechanics

Three (3) years of related experience

Excellent communication skills

Ability to work on 24-hour call schedule
