Job summary

Barnhart Crane & Rigging is seeking a hands-on Trailer Mechanic for its Heavy Haul Group. You will maintain and repair hydraulic trailers and multi-axle equipment, troubleshoot electrical and hydraulic systems, and diagnose steering, suspension, and braking components.

You’ll respond to field service calls across North America, perform preventive maintenance, and assist with trailer assembly and mobilization for oversized transports.

Qualifications

• 3-5+ years of experience maintaining trailers, heavy equipment, diesel equipment, or hydraulic systems.
• Strong mechanical and hydraulic troubleshooting skills.
• Experience diagnosing and repairing electrical systems.
• Ability to read hydraulic and electrical schematics.
• Mechanically inclined with a strong problem-solving mindset.
• Willingness to travel extensively in an over-the-road (OTR) role.
• Ability to work independently while supporting a team-oriented operation.
• Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on hydraulic trailers, multi-axle trailer systems, and specialized heavy haul equipment.
• Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and mechanical systems.
• Diagnose issues with steering systems, suspension systems, braking systems, and hydraulic components.
• Respond to equipment breakdowns in the field and support active heavy haul transportation projects.
• Conduct preventative maintenance and inspections to maximize equipment reliability.
• Assist with trailer assembly, configuration, and mobilization for oversized and super load transports.
• Utilize tablets, maintenance software, and service documentation to track repairs and equipment history.
• Travel extensively throughout North America supporting the Heavy Haul Group and customer projects.
