Job summary

BERKELEY COUNTY GOVERNMENT seeks a skilled Vehicle Operator to operate heavy trucks and equipment for county road and drainage projects. The role includes daily site work, vehicle maintenance, and safety compliance.

Experience with read/write duties, basic math, and the ability to handle physical tasks is required. Work hours are Monday–Thursday, with potential after-hours during emergencies and weather events.

Qualifications

• Must have and maintain a valid Commercial Driver's License Class B with tanker endorsement for South Carolina with safe driving record.
• Ability to read and write; strong mathematical skills preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy vehicles and equipment at county work sites for construction and maintenance.
• Load and unload vehicles, ensuring safety rules are followed.
• Perform minor service on vehicles; check fluids, lighting, tires, and safety equipment.
• Maintain logs/records of maintenance and provide emergency response when needed.
• Provide traffic control and transport equipment to job sites as required.
