Job summary

Harsco Environmental in Kentucky is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator to safely run large mobile equipment supporting steel-mill operations. You will move materials, inspect gear, and maintain site safety while adhering to strict procedures.

You’ll work closely with dispatch and maintenance, participate in safety meetings, and help with basic equipment care. A high school diploma and 1–3 years of experience are expected; outdoor work and extreme weather are common.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 1–3 years of experience as an equipment operator.
• Ability to perform outdoor manual labor in varying weather.
• Strong communication and safety focus.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate heavy equipment such as wheel loaders, dozers, excavators, cranes, material handlers, haul trucks, and other support equipment.
• Support steel-mill operations through material handling activities, including slag, scrap metal, raw materials, and finished by-products.
• Perform pre-shift and post-shift equipment inspections and report mechanical or safety concerns.
• Operate equipment in compliance with company policies, site procedures, and all applicable safety regulations.
• Maintain awareness of surroundings while working in active mill areas with moving equipment, rail traffic, and high-temperature processes.
• Communicate effectively with dispatch, supervisors, and maintenance personnel.
• Maintain clean, organized work areas and equipment cabs.
• Complete required production, inspection, and equipment operation documentation.
• Participate in safety meetings, JSAs, and ongoing training programs.
• Assist with basic equipment care and minor operational adjustments as trained.

Position Summary

The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for the safe, efficient operation of large mobile equipment used to support steel-mill operations. This role plays a critical part in material movement, production support, and site safety. Operators work in a demanding industrial environment where strict safety compliance and operational precision are essential.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. 1 - 3 year’s experience as a equipment operator.
3. Ability to do manual labor in an outdoor environment that may include elevated areas and extreme weather conditions.
4. Good communications skills, and the ability to read operating instructions.
5. Proactive in SAFETY and works well in a team environment.
