Job summary

SA Recycling is seeking a dedicated Equipment Operator to safely operate heavy equipment in the outside yard environment in Birmingham, AL. You will load/unload containers, assess load weights, and ensure compliance with safety and environmental standards.

Responsibilities include inspecting equipment daily, directing trucks, and identifying scrap quality while adhering to all policies. Prior experience in scrap or construction is preferred; bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• 1 year experience operating hydraulic crane and wheeled bucket loader; construction/scrap metal experience preferred.
• Bilingual English/Spanish a plus.
• Ability to follow written or oral instructions and learn new tasks.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment to load/unload scrap metal and debris for processing or shipping.
• Determine load weights and verify against lifting capacities to prevent overloads.
• Identify and grade inbound scrap and reject unacceptable items.
• Drain and remove fluids from vehicles and other equipment.
• Direct trucks for loading/unloading of scrap and materials.
• Perform daily equipment inspections and report issues to supervisor.
• Comply with all SA Recycling safety, health and environmental rules.
