Job summary

The heavy equipment operator position within the Department of Transportation’s Rural Road Maintenance division (District 4) in Perry requires operating diverse power equipment and performing maintenance on highways. Level I/II roles exist with defined pay bands and CDL expectations.

Experience requirements range from none at Level I to one year at Level II, with comprehensive safety training and state benefits outlined in the posting.

Qualifications

• Operates heavy equipment and performs related highway maintenance tasks.
• Knowledge of safe operation and routine maintenance of power equipment.
• CDL class A or B with appropriate endorsements may be required at appointment.

Responsibilities

• Operates equipment such as trucks, graders, dozers, loaders, cranes and related gear.
• Performs minor repairs and maintenance on equipment and facilities.
• Repairs roadway shoulders, signs, guardrails and pavement markings as needed.
• Directs traffic safety using stop/slow signals when required.
