Job summary

Westwood is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator for the Fields and Grounds team within the Department of Public Works. The role emphasizes safe operation of heavy machinery and field maintenance across athletic fields, with responsibilities spanning mowing, turf care, and seasonal snow removal.

Requirements include a High School diploma or equivalent, 3 years in public works, and MA Class B CDL with Hoisting license (2A preferred, 2B/4G required).

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent with 3 years in public works maintenance or equivalent.
• Proficiency operating a diverse range of public works heavy equipment.
• Massachusetts Class B CDL and Hoisting Engineer license required; 2A preferred, 2B/4G required.
• Frequent heavy physical effort in varying weather conditions.
• Full-time, 40 hours per week, union position; overtime opportunities.

Responsibilities

• Maintain athletic fields: mowing, grooming, lining infields, irrigation repairs, turf maintenance.
• Assist turf practices: aerating, sod cutting/replacement, seeding, weed control.
• Safely operate backhoes, loaders, dump trucks, road sander, asphalt roller; use tools.
• Support roadwork: pothole patching, curbs/sidewalks, trench work, signage repairs.
• Provide on-call snow removal and emergency highway repair support.
