Job summary

Dane County Waste & Renewables seeks a full-time Skilled Laborer - Landfill to operate heavy equipment and perform manual work at the landfill and related facilities. The position supports operations, maintenance, and construction across sites including the RNG plant, with flexibility for nights, weekends, and emergencies.

Qualifications

• Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of experience in construction or maintenance, or at least six (6) months of operating medium-heavy sized motorized equipment (front end loader, bulldozer, excavator, etc.).
• Valid Wisconsin Class “B” Commercial Driver’s License required at time of hire. Valid Wisconsin Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License required within 12 months of hire.
• N (Tanker) endorsement preferred but not required. Everyone who has a CDL must be registered in the US DOT’s Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse.
• Ability to lift 70 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and to work outside in all weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Operates heavy machinery including bulldozers, front-end loaders, landfill compactors, and trucks.
• Plows snow and applies ice control materials on department properties.
• Installs or repairs piping and performs HDPE/PVC welding where needed.
• Performs daily equipment inspections and reports issues to mechanics.
• Directs traffic flow and ensures loads are disposed properly.
• Maintains site cleanliness and assists with litter removal.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
