The candidate should have a High School diploma or equivalent, with mechanical repair experience considered a plus. Availability Tuesday through Saturday is required to support county needs.

Qualifications

• Operates heavy equipment (grader, compactor, scraper, backhoe, dozer) to move, cover and compact waste.
• Monitors loads and activities to ensure compliance with permits and regulations.
• Interacts with the public to explain landfill rules and address concerns.

Responsibilities

• Operates and maintains heavy equipment and vehicles as directed by the Landfill Manager.
• Responds to public requests and concerns; communicates safety and regulatory requirements.
• Inspects loads and sanitation practices to identify hazardous materials and ensure SWANA/DEQ compliance.
• Performs routine maintenance on equipment and reports mechanical issues.
• May assist with scale-house duties, invoicing and record-keeping as needed.
• Performs related duties to support landfill operations.
