Job summary

Horry County is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator II to support road and drainage maintenance. The role involves operating backhoes, graders, rollers, and other heavy equipment, transporting materials, and performing routine equipment maintenance under supervision.

Safe operation and coordination with crew are essential. Experienced candidates with 1–3 years in heavy equipment or related fields, and a high school diploma or equivalent, are preferred.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or equivalent.
• One to three years of experience in heavy equipment operation or related field; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.

Responsibilities

• Operates heavy machinery to complete road construction and maintenance tasks including transporting materials, building bridges, grading/compacting roads, digging drainage ditches, installing storm drainage, and repairing roads and driveways.
• Transports equipment to job sites and performs routine maintenance checks on department vehicles and equipment.
• Receives work orders and completes jobs in a timely manner as directed by the supervisor.
