Job summary

Recon, a national environmental and civil construction contractor, seeks a Heavy Equipment Operator I to safely operate various heavy machines on earthwork projects. The role emphasizes safety, daily equipment inspections, and clear communication with the crew.

Responsibilities include maintaining safe work conditions, assisting with material handling, and following job safety analyses. Salary is hourly, with opportunities for ongoing field work and strict adherence to PPE protocols.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of OSHA regulations for excavation methods and practices.
• Ability to read survey stakes for alignment and grading.
• Duties include using PPE and respirators as required.
• MSHA Certification is a plus.
• Must be able to travel over extended periods on short notice.
• Must be able to read, write and understand math and English.
• Must pass a skills test prior to operating equipment.
• Must reliably show up on time five to seven days a week.

Responsibilities

• Observe and comply with all site safety policies.
• Provide input to Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and updates to JSAP.
• Operate heavy equipment safely to minimize risk.
• Perform daily pre-inspections and maintenance checks.
• Survey surroundings for safe ground and slope conditions.
• Communicate via radio and signals to coordinate materials handling.
• Collaborate with Foreman and Superintendent to ensure quality and schedule.
• Assist in lifting or positioning materials as needed.
• Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned.
