Job summary

Galveston County is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator for the Road & Bridge Department to support construction, repair, and maintenance of county streets, drainage systems, beaches, and related infrastructure.

The role requires a High School diploma or GED and at least six months of related experience, plus a valid Texas driver’s license. Work includes operating rollers, loaders, tractors, dump trucks, backhoes, and water trucks, with outdoor, sometimes harsh conditions.

Qualifications

• Requires a High School diploma or GED equivalent.
• Requires six months of experience in construction, maintenance or repairs of roadways, bridges, and operating heavy and light construction equipment or closely related experience.
• Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.

Responsibilities

• Operates and maintains road paving construction equipment, including rollers, loaders, tractors, dump trucks, backhoes, and water trucks.
• Loads and unloads large amounts and weights of materials and debris to and from trucks.
• Drives a medium-sized truck to transport personnel, supplies, and materials.
• May flag traffic as needed.
• Patches roadways, loads trash and debris, and performs housekeeping and facilities maintenance.
