Job Title: Heavy Equipment Operator - Hampton Roads

Department: Grading

Reports to: Project Superintendent

Major Role and Purpose:

• Operates heavy industrial equipment such as dozers, excavators, backhoes, or other grading or excavating equipment to move and level materials like dirt and gravel.

Description of Duties:

• Monitor site activity.
• Follow all safety policies and procedures.
• Operate heavy industrial equipment knowledgeably.
• Spread dirt in fill areas.
• Clear and grub the work area.
• Perform fine and rough grade operations.
• Manage fill areas.
• Read slope stakes.
• Cut slopes to specifications (type of slope, ditch depths, fill heights).
• Direct trucks and equipment for off-loading, stockpiling, or spreading material loads.
• Dress and clean up the site upon completion.
• Perform routine maintenance like watering, oiling, greasing, and making adjustments to equipment.
• Operate equipment safely and consistently.
• Willing to work nights and weekends.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Education:

• High School Diploma.

Experience:

• 3-5 years of operating various heavy equipment.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Understanding of GPS grade control.
• Knowledge of grading principles.
