General Contractor in Newport News, VA is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator who is committed to performing and maintaining the quality work standards established by Hampton Roads Contracting, Inc.

HRC has been in business since 1983, primarily performing projects of varying scope in industrial environments such as Newport News Shipbuilding, the largest shipbuilding organization in the world. Description and Responsibilities:

The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for operating motor vehicles and heavy equipment to meet the quality and safety standards established by Hampton Roads Contracting, Inc. Responsibilities include:

  • Inspect equipment/machinery for safe operation and maintenance needs.
  • Clean, maintain, and secure all equipment as directed by management and company policies.
  • Operate heavy equipment such as backhoes, forklifts, excavators, aerial equipment, and other construction/maintenance machinery.
  • Perform excavating and grading tasks.
  • Coordinate with construction laborers and crew members for equipment alignment, movement, and adjustments to complete project specifications.
  • Follow daily work instructions from supervisors promptly.

Job Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Valid Driver's License and ability to operate company vehicles.
  • Class A CDL license.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans.
  • 5-10 years of experience operating heavy equipment.
  • Ability to stand for long periods and lift heavy materials.
  • Strong knowledge of safe heavy equipment operation practices.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced environment, maintaining a positive attitude.
  • Ability to set up and operate a site level.
