Job summary

City of Valdosta seeks a Municipal Street Maintenance Worker to operate backhoe, excavator, front-end loader, bulldozer and other equipment for street and stormwater maintenance.

You will trim and prune city trees, remove debris, maintain vehicles, assist with traffic control at work sites, and install holiday decorations.

A high school diploma or equivalent, the ability to read, write, perform basic math, and 1–2 years of related experience, plus a valid driver’s license, are required.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of safety policies and procedures.

• Trims and prunes city trees; removes tree limbs and debris from streets and city property; installs trees and landscaping.
• Maintains assigned vehicles and equipment; performs pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections.
• Assists in traffic control at work sites.
• Installs and removes holiday decorations.
• Performs related duties.

Requirements

• Knowledge of the techniques, equipment, and supplies used in street, tree, and stormwater system maintenance.
• Knowledge of city and departmental safety policies and procedures.
• Knowledge of the geography of the city, including street names and locations.
• Skill in the operation of assigned vehicles, trucks and heavy equipment.
• Skill in prioritizing and organizing work.
• Skill in the use of hand and power tools.
• Skill in oral and written communication.
• Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
• Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
• Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
