Job summary

City of Acworth is seeking an Equipment Operator to support street construction and maintenance projects. This role operates a range of city-owned equipment, loads and transports gear to active worksites, and participates in the upkeep of streets, bridges, and drainage systems.

You will install and repair street signs, respond to after-hours emergencies, clear trees and debris after storms, and perform pre-/post-trip inspections and preventative maintenance, contributing to safe, well‑maintained

Qualifications

• Specialized training in the field with high school education.
• 1–2 years of related work experience or apprenticeship.
• Ability to obtain a Georgia commercial driver's license for the vehicle operated.

Supervisory Controls

The Streets Supervisor assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.

Guidelines

Guidelines include traffic laws, work safety policies, the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, and city policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.

Complexity / Scope Of Work

• The work consists of related equipment operation duties. Extreme heat, inclement weather and heavy traffic contribute to the complexity of the position.
• The purpose of this position is to operate equipment in support of the maintenance of city streets and related infrastructure. Successful performance contributes to the provision of safe and well-maintained city infrastructure.

Physical Demands / Work Environment

• The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and distinguishes between shades of color.
• The work is typically performed outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee is exposed to dust, dirt, grease, and machinery with moving parts. The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.

Supervisory And Management Responsibility

This position may have functional supervision over assigned personnel.

Minimum Qualifications

• Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
• Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
• Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid commercial driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
