Job summary

Vulcan Materials Company is a major producer of construction aggregates and related materials in the United States. A roving operator role emphasizes safety, operating heavy equipment, inspecting and maintaining assets, and supporting plant processes across multiple yards and locations.

Qualifications

  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip equipment inspections and document results.
  • Assist in basic maintenance and monitor plant processes for safety.
  • Provide excellent customer service and resolve issues with sales/dispatch.
  • Travel between sales yards and plant locations as required.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect Equipment. Perform thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections and accurately complete daily mobile equipment reports and other relevant documentation.
  • Maintain Equipment. Maintain equipment performance by checking vehicle fluid levels, adding correct fluids as necessary, and assisting in performing other minor maintenance.
  • Monitor Processes, Materials, or Surroundings. Monitor the plant and operations and report any necessary maintenance or adjustments that may be required to ensure safety.
  • Prepare and Operate Scales. Prepare scales for daily use, operate truck scales, and generate correct tickets for customers.

What You’ll Do

  • Operate Heavy Equipment. Safely operate off-highway equipment to transport raw materials and finished products throughout the facility safely and efficiently.
  • Inspect Equipment. Perform thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections and accurately complete daily mobile equipment reports and other relevant documentation.
  • Maintain Equipment. Maintain equipment performance by checking vehicle fluid levels, adding correct fluids as necessary, and assisting in performing other minor maintenance.
  • Monitor Processes, Materials, or Surroundings. Monitor the plant and operations and report any necessary maintenance or adjustments that may be required to ensure safety.
  • Prepare and Operate Scales. From time to time as required by business needs, prepare scales for daily use. Work with Plant Admin Support Supervisors to troubleshoot and repair issues. Operate the truck scales and generate correct tickets for the customers. Weigh and record incoming materials such as gasoline, diesel fuel, explosives, and scrap sales.
  • Provide Excellent Customer Service. Greet customers in a professional and polite manner. Communicate clearly with customers to bill transactions correctly. Listen to customer issues and complaints and work to resolve them through communication with the sales/dispatch department. Direct customers to piles and instruct load out personnel of customer needs.
  • Maintain Office and Cash Fund. Maintain cash fund accurately and report any discrepancies. Handle cash sales by collecting cash, checks, or credit card transactions. Maintain the office in a neat and professional manner. Answer phones and handle office duties and projects as requested.
  • Roving Assignment. Serve as a roving operator as required for business purposes, with the ability to travel and work between different sales yards and plant locations as needed.

Hourly Range. The hourly range for this role is between $22.79 and $33.01. This range does not include our discretionary bonus, shift differential, or equity package. When determining a candidate’s compensation, we consider several factors, including skillset, experience, job scope, and current market data.
