Job summary

MEB General Contractors in the Mid-Atlantic region is seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator to safely operate excavators, dump trucks, loaders, backhoes, and other near-site equipment throughout our projects. You will prioritize quality, health and safety standards on every job.

The role requires five years of field experience, ability to read blueprints and surveys, and the stamina to perform manual labor in varied conditions. Equal opportunity employer.

Responsibilities

  • Operate a variety of heavy equipment on projects.
  • Load, haul, and spread gravel, dirt, and sand.
  • Excavate trenches and install drainage and piping sites.
  • Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs.
  • Read survey markings, blueprints, and grades.
  • Ensure safety and housekeeping on site.
  • Assist other crafts when equipment is idle.

Job description

Our team is looking for an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator to safely operate heavy equipment including, but not limited to excavator, dump truck, loader, backhoe, tamper, water truck, and bulldozer in support of our various construction projects throughout the Mid-Atlantic Region. Core Areas of Responsibility.
  • Operate a variety of vehicles and large heavy equipment while performing work inside industrial facilities, on roads and in right-of-ways including excavating, loading, hauling, and dumping.
  • Load gravel, dirt, and sand; smooth and grade roads; spread rock and gravel.
  • Excavate trenches and construct ditches for installation of culverts, water pipes and sewer pipes; remove silt and debris.
  • Install various forms of trench and excavation shoring systems including trench boxes, sheets, plates, and hydraulic shoring
  • Make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment while in the field.
  • Evaluate lifting capacities of equipment & rigging versus weights of lifted materials.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance on equipment to ensure prime operability.
  • Assist other crafts when equipment is not in use.
  • Five (5) years of experience safely operating equipment such as excavators, dump truck, loader, trackhoe, backhoe, tamper, water truck and bulldozer.
  • Ability to read, understand and follow survey markings, blueprints, diagrams, and grades and instructions from supervisors.
  • Knowledge in utility and site grading/construction and the ability to judge distances and slopes accurately.
  • Able to perform manual labor in all types of environments and conditions, including heavy lifting (in excess of 50 lbs.) for an 8 – 10-hour workday.
  • Interpersonal competencies that include a drive for results, effective oral communication skills, organization, planning, trust, respect, dependability and cooperation.
  • Good housekeeping standards and ability to observe safety procedures and report any potentially unsafe conditions to management.
Additional Requirements.
  • 18 years of Age
  • Able to Pass a Drug Test
  • Legally Eligible to Work in the US
  • If assigned to a government project, US citizenship and clear background check may be required.
  • Experience installing underground piping required.
Additional Requirements for Craftworkers.
  • Must have own transportation to and from jobsite every workday (driver's license not required)
  • Must provide own hand tools (excluding power tools)
  • May be expected to travel where the project requires (multi-state opportunities)
