Heavy Equipment Operator
C&D Scrap Metal Recyclers Houston, TX
Employment Type: Full-Time

About the Role

C&D Scrap Metal Recyclers is seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Heavy Equipment Operator to join our operations team. This role is essential in supporting daily scrap yard functions through the proficient operation of various heavy machinery. The ideal candidate will handle material loading and unloading, assist in metal processing, and uphold safety and operational standards. Additionally, operators serve as a positive and professional face of the company during customer interactions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute tasks under Yard Supervisor direction: Efficiently carry out daily operational priorities, ensuring workflow continuity and timely project completion.
  • Manage receipt and unloading of materials: Safely receive and unload scrap materials from customers, verifying quantity and condition to maintain inventory accuracy.
  • Operate heavy equipment for loading: Skillfully operate loaders, excavators, and forklifts to load / unload materials onto / from trailers and trucks, ensuring balanced loads and compliance with safety protocols.
  • Support metal processing operations: Assist with sorting, cleaning, and preparing metals for shipment or sale, collaborating closely with processing teams to meet production goals.
  • Maintain rigorous safety standards: Adhere to all safety policies, perform regular equipment inspections, wear required PPE, and promptly report any hazards or incidents.
  • Perform equipment maintenance: Conduct routine inspections and basic maintenance to ensure machinery remains in optimal working condition, reporting issues promptly.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service: Represent the company professionally during customer interactions, fostering positive relationships and a welcoming environment.
  • Ensure workplace cleanliness and organization: Maintain clean, safe, and orderly work areas, including proper storage of tools and equipment.



Work Schedule & Location

  • Occasional travel to satellite locations may be required for operational support.
  • Full-time position

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years experience operating heavy equipment (loaders, excavators, forklifts) in industrial or scrap yard settings.
  • At least 2 years experience in a production or heavy industrial environment emphasizing safety and efficiency.
  • Excellent physical stamina and manual dexterity, including strong hand-eye coordination.
  • Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining safety and productivity standards.
  • Strong commitment to adhering to all safety regulations and company policies.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to evolving equipment and procedures.
  • Ability to work outside in heat, rain, cold, etc.
