Job summary

Gray & Son Inc. is seeking qualified Heavy Equipment Operators to support grading and utility projects in Illinois. You will operate dozers, excavators, loaders, backhoes, and graders on active sites, delivering earthworks to spec while prioritizing safety and productivity.

This role includes daily preventive maintenance, inspections, coordinating with foremen, and supporting toolbox talks. A strong team mindset and reliable attendance are essential for improving site outcomes and meeting

Qualifications

• Experience operating heavy equipment for grading and utility work.
• Ability to operate dozers, excavators, graders and backhoes.
• Willingness to participate in morning huddles and toolbox talks.
• Commitment to safety, maintenance and teamwork.
• Valid driver’s license may be required by site.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for daily equipment greasing, morning walk-arounds and fluid checks with maintenance records.
• Adjust hand wheels and pedals to operate blades, buckets, scrapers and swing brooms on machines.
• Align machines with stakes or guidelines and coordinate actions via hand signals.
• Load and move dirt, rocks and materials using trucks, tractors and related gear.
• Attend morning huddles and toolbox talks with Foremen/Superintendents.
• Other duties as assigned by Foreman or Superintendent.

We are looking for experienced equipment operators for the following roles:

$3,000 sign on bonus if you have at least 2 years of experience!

Responsibilities

• Responsible for daily equipment greasing, morning “walk arounds” and fluid checks. Complete daily maintenance checklist to ensure your equipment is properly maintained, and to ensure the proper preservation of equipment maintenance records.
• Adjust hand wheels and depress pedals to control attachments such as blades, buckets, scrapers, and swing brooms. Start engines, move throttles, switches and levers, and depresses pedals to operate machines such as bulldozers, excavators, graders and backhoes.
• Align machines, cutter heads, or depth gauge makers with reference stakes and guidelines or ground, or position equipment following hand signals of other workers. Coordinate machine actions with other activities, positioning or moving loads in response to hand or audio signals from crew members.
• Load and move dirt, rocks, equipment, and materials, using trucks, tractors, power cranes, shovels, graders, and related equipment. Drive and maneuver equipment equipped with blades in successive passes over working areas to remove topsoil, vegetation, and rocks, and to distribute and level earth or terrain.
• Willingly attend and support Foremen/Superintendents during morning huddles and toolbox talks.
• Other duties as assigned as assigned by your Foreman or Superintendent.
