Job summary

Alter Trading in Columbus, NE hires a full-time production operator to run material handling equipment, unload and load trucks and rail cars, and sort material in the yard.

You will inspect loads for yard safety, perform basic machine maintenance (greasing and oil changes), and assist with light labor. Prior experience is helpful, but training is provided for heavy machinery operation.

Qualifications

• Prior experience operating heavy machinery preferred but not required.
• Ability to lift 30–50 lbs and 100+ lbs with assistance as needed.
• Willingness to train on semi-tractor and yard tasks.

Responsibilities

• Unloads customer vehicles including small or medium trucks or semi-trailers.
• Sorts material in appropriate areas.
• Loads trucks and rail cars with scrap material.
• Inspects loads for yard safety and rail cars before departure.
• Greases and changes oil on machines; performs minor maintenance.
• Some hand sorting and labor may be required.
• Other responsibilities as assigned.

Full Time Production Columbus, NE, US

Salary Range: $20.00 To $22.00 Annually

Facility: All

Reports to: Facility Manager

Under supervision, operates material handler, similar style to an excavator, as well as other Heavy Equipment including wheel loader and articulating dump truck. in a facility, unloading or loading trucks, semis, rail cars with material, sorting material in yard.

• Unloads customer vehicles including small or medium trucks or semi-trailers
• Sorts material in appropriate areas
• Loads trucks and rail cars with scrap material
• Ensures torch cutter is supplied with material to torch
• Inspects all loads according to yard standards, ensuring rail cars and semi-trailers are safe to leave the yard
• Inspects all inbound/outbound material
• Greases and changes oil on machine. Handles minor maintenance duties on the crane.
• Some hand sorting and labor also may be required
• Other responsibilities as assigned

Wears all necessary PPE when working in the yard. Follows company safety standards at all times. Failure to follow standards, may result in loss of position.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED preferred but not required. Prior experience operating heavy machinery and driving a semi-tractor/trailer preferred but not required as we will train candidates. Basic machine maintenance knowledge a plus. Must be able to lift a minimum of 30-50 lbs and 100+lbs on 2-person lift.
