Job summary

Gray & Son, Inc. is seeking experienced Heavy Equipment Operators to join our Grading and Utility teams in Maryland. Roles include Dozer, Excavator, Loader, Backhoe, and Grader operators, with a $3,000 sign-on bonus for applicants with at least two years of experience.

Operators will conduct daily greasing, fluid checks, and maintenance, operate blades, buckets and related attachments, and coordinate with crew members to move loads safely and efficiently on large-scale projects.

Qualifications

• Experience operating heavy equipment is preferred.
• Ability to perform daily maintenance checks and preventative tasks.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for daily equipment greasing, morning walk arounds and fluid checks, completing maintenance checklist and maintaining maintenance records.
• Operate machines such as bulldozers, excavators, graders and backhoes by adjusting controls and aligning with reference stakes and signals.
• Coordinate machine actions with other crew activities and move loads using trucks, tractors, cranes, shovels, and graders.
• Load and move dirt, rocks, equipment and materials while distributing and leveling earth or terrain with appropriate attachments.
• Attend and support Foremen during morning huddles and toolbox talks.
• Perform other duties as assigned by Foreman or Superintendent.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for daily equipment greasing, morning “walk arounds” and fluid checks. Complete daily maintenance checklist to ensure your equipment is properly maintained, and to ensure the proper preservation of equipment maintenance records.
• Adjust hand wheels and depress pedals to control attachments such as blades, buckets, scrapers, and swing brooms. Start engines, move throttles, switches and levers, and depresses pedals to operate machines such as bulldozers, excavators, graders and backhoes.
• Align machines, cutter heads, or depth gauge makers with reference stakes and guidelines or ground, or position equipment following hand signals of other workers. Coordinate machine actions with other activities, positioning or moving loads in response to hand or audio signals from crew members.
• Load and move dirt, rocks, equipment, and materials, using trucks, tractors, power cranes, shovels, graders, and related equipment. Drive and maneuver equipment equipped with blades in successive passes over working areas to remove topsoil, vegetation, and rocks, and to distribute and level earth or terrain.
• Willingly attend and support Foremen/Superintendents during morning huddles and toolbox talks.
• Other duties as assigned as assigned by your Foreman or Superintendent.
