Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate and/or have the ability to operate various equipment including forklift, bobcat, backhoe, track hoe, compactor, and/or steer equipment to bale, load, and move waste material.
- Operate necessary equipment to bale and load waste material into trailers.
- Perform daily inspection and maintenance checks of equipment, including greasing, lubricating, and checking fluids.
- Steer, guide, and operate equipment at the assigned site using steering wheel, shifters, levers, buttons, and pedals.
- Substitute for another operator as needed or when someone is absent.
- Clean trash from tracks of heavy equipment daily or as needed.
- Use a two-way radio to communicate with co-workers regarding work activities, requirements, and priorities.
- Conform to all applicable laws, regulations, ordinances, and company policies.
- Maintain the appearance of the grounds and facility.
- Attend safety and branch meetings.
- Perform other duties as required by management.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED desired but not required.
- Completion of forklift certification.
- Ability to obtain Transfer Station / Landfill Operations Certification if needed.
- Operate equipment such as excavator, forklift/bobcat, front-loader, baler, backhoe, track hoe, bulldozer, and compactor, with appropriate safety gear.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently.
- Apply common sense to solve problems involving multiple variables.
- Read and understand equipment gauges and perform basic math functions.
- Proficient in English (reading, speaking, understanding, writing).
- Physical ability to lift up to 25 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Work outdoors in various weather conditions.
Physical and Mental Demands
- Ability to stand, sit, walk, use hands, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, climb, and balance.
- Visual requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
Working Conditions
- Exposure to loud noise, humidity, weather, moving mechanical parts, vibration, chemicals, fumes, and airborne particles.
- Work environment is usually moderate to loud, outdoors, sometimes in high or precarious places.
