Job summary

Kalmar Inc. in Memphis, TN is seeking a hands-on technician to diagnose, repair, and maintain Kalmar and third‑party intermodal cargo handling equipment.

You will handle complex mechanical challenges, uphold safety standards, and deliver high-quality service to keep critical supply chains moving. The role requires a minimum of 3 years’ experience with heavy industrial equipment, the ability to read schematics, and a proactive, team-oriented attitude.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Technical certification in mechanical, electrical, or industrial maintenance preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience maintaining or repairing heavy industrial equipment.
  • Ability to read schematics, manuals, and troubleshooting guides; PLC familiarity a plus.
  • Safety-focused with strong problem-solving and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair Kalmar and third-party intermodal equipment (mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, electronics).
  • Perform preventative maintenance per service plans and OEM recommendations.
  • Safely operate tools, forklifts, hoists, and cranes in a field setting.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings and wiring diagrams; document work orders and reports.
  • Collaborate with customers and Kalmar support to coordinate service and mentor junior technicians.

In this role, you’ll be the go‑to expert for troubleshooting and repairs on Kalmar and third‑party equipment, delivering high‑quality service, clear technical insights, and detailed reporting that keeps operations moving without interruption. Compensation Data
  • Base Salary: $26- $30 per hour
  • Eligible for Annual Bonus
  • Now Offering: Sign-On Bonus
What are your key responsibilities:
  • Diagnosis & Repair: Mechanical, Electrical, Hydraulic and Electronics diagnosis & repair of Kalmar and third‑party intermodal cargo handling equipment
  • Preventative Maintenance: Execute scheduled preventative maintenance in accordance with service plans and OEM recommendations.
  • Equipment Operation: Safely operate tools and equipment, including hand tools, pneumatic/electric tools, forklifts, hoists, and overhead cranes.
  • Technical Documentation: Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and hydraulic schematics, while supporting processes like work orders, inspection reports, and labor tracking
  • Customer and Team Collaboration: Collaborate with customer maintenance personnel and Kalmar technical support to coordinate service efforts, and train or guide customer staff and junior technicians when required

What you bring to the role:
  • Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED required. Technical certification in mechanical, electrical, or industrial maintenance strongly preferred. Preference given to U.S. military veterans and candidates with Kalmar equipment experience.
  • Experience: Minimum 3 years of experience maintaining or repairing heavy industrial equipment, with exposure to electrical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, and mechanical systems.
  • Technical Expertise: Ability to read and work from schematics, technical manuals, and troubleshooting guides. Familiarity with PLC‑controlled systems is a plus.
  • Safety Commitment: Strong awareness and adherence to safety protocols to ensure a secure work environment for yourself and your colleagues, including being comfortable working in a field environment and at elevated heights.
  • Independent Problem‑Solving: Strong problem‑solving abilities, work ethic, and self‑discipline to work independently while following contract‑specific procedures and expectations.
