Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks a Maintenance Shop Technician to assist mechanics in servicing heavy equipment, engines, and transmissions. Responsibilities include field service calls, preventive maintenance up to level III, and troubleshooting electrical issues with diagnostic tools.

Qualifications

Six (6) months of work experience directly related to the area of employment or equivalent.
Attainment of a South Carolina High School Automotive Technology or Diesel Engine curriculum may substitute for six months of experience.

Responsibilities

Assist mechanics in routine maintenance and repairs on heavy equipment and engines.
Troubleshoot vehicle electrical problems and operate diagnostic equipment.
Perform preventive maintenance on state equipment up to level III (SCDOT Key Series 001–011).
Assist with brake, exhaust, and muffler repairs as needed.
Install and repair inclement weather equipment and participate in emergencies.
Keep the shop clean and organized and attend job-related training.
May be required to work extended shifts and on-call during emergencies.
