Job summary

Port Houston is seeking a skilled maintenance mechanic to troubleshoot, repair, and perform preventative maintenance on port equipment and related machinery. Responsibilities include inspecting containers, yard tractors, forklifts, and chassis; diagnosing gearboxes, hydraulic systems, brakes, and more; and providing cost estimates for repairs.

Candidates must have a high school diploma or GED and 4+ years of related mechanic experience, plus a Texas driver’s license and TWIC within 30 days of

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• 4+ years of related mechanic experience required.
• TWIC must be obtained within 30 days of appointment and maintained for duration of employment.
• A valid Texas driver’s license is required

Responsibilities

• Inspect, repair, and maintain mechanical equipment or machinery including container handling units, yard tractors, forklifts, vehicles and terminal chassis.
• Diagnose and repair component parts of machinery including gearboxes, hydraulic systems, brakes, compressors and other related parts; diagnose and repair chassis components and systems, brakes, pneumatic, suspension, and alignment
• Utilize computer or diagnostic tools to enter and retrieve information
• Provide cost estimates for repairs to equipment and machinery including engine overhaul, body repair and work order requests
• Use hand tools, hoists, pressure gauges, drills, grinding wheels, and other tools proficiently to carry out assigned tasks
• For yard truck and chassis repair, remove, repair and replace transmissions, engines, brakes, suspensions, exhaust, fuel, cooling and electrical systems
• Read and use factory manuals and blueprints as required to fulfill job assignments.
• Coordinate repairs and maintenance schedules and delegate work duties to subordinate staff
• Work required scheduled overtime hours and be available for unscheduled overtime when operating requirements or other business needs of Port Houston cannot be fulfilled during regular working hours
• Work a temporary, alternative schedule or shift as requested by supervisor
