Job summary

Port Houston is seeking an experienced heavy equipment mechanic to inspect, repair, and maintain container handling units, yard tractors, forklifts, vehicles, and terminal chassis. You will diagnose components, interpret manuals, and provide repair estimates.

Strong knowledge of diagnostics, safety procedures, and heavy equipment repair is essential. A High School diploma or GED and 4+ years experience, plus a Texas driver's license and TWIC within 30 days, are required.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years related mechanic experience.
  • Knowledge of diagnostics and repair.
  • Knowledge of mechanics and heavy-duty equipment repair and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work with others and pay attention to details.
  • Valid Texas driver's license and TWIC within 30 days of appointment.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, repair, and maintain mechanical equipment including container handling units, yard tractors, forklifts, vehicles and terminal chassis.
  • Diagnose and repair components such as gearboxes, hydraulic systems, brakes, compressors, and chassis systems.
  • Use computer or diagnostic tools to enter and retrieve information.
  • Provide cost estimates for repairs to equipment and machinery.
  • Use hand tools, hoists, pressure gauges, drills, grinding wheels, and other tools to perform tasks.
  • Read and use factory manuals and blueprints as required.
  • Coordinate repairs and maintenance schedules and delegate work to staff.
  • Work overtime as required; adapt to shift changes per supervisor.
  • Adhere to Port Houston core values and perform other duties as required.
