Job summary

The City of Grand Rapids seeks a Heavy Equipment Mechanic for the 2nd shift, four ten-hour days (2:00 pm–12:00 am). You will diagnose and repair trucks and equipment, perform preventive maintenance, and manage parts orders to keep the fleet operational.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED with automotive/heavy equipment training, at least two years of hands-on repair experience, and a Michigan CDL Class A with N endorsement or the ability to obtain within six months.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with training in automotive/heavy equipment or diesel repair.
• At least two years of experience in automotive/heavy equipment repair and maintenance; state certifications may apply.
• Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills.

Responsibilities

• Diagnoses and repairs trucks and equipment.
• Performs all necessary repairs to maintain the fleet.
• Orders the correct parts to repair units.
• Documents repairs and repaired times electronically.
• Provides preventative maintenance services for heavy equipment.
• Keeps work area clean and organized.
