Job summary

Southeast Berrien County Landfill Authority is seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Mechanic to perform diagnostics, repair, and PMs on landfill machinery such as dozers, excavators, and rock trucks. You will assist with parts inventory, and maintain records of all vehicles and equipment.

The role requires welding capabilities, occasional operation of heavy machinery, and adherence to safety standards. Participation in safety meetings is expected as part of maintaining a safe worksite.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose breakdowns and repair to restore normal operation.
• Schedule maintenance and repairs with outside contractors when warranty or complexity requires.
• Weld to perform repairs on equipment.
• Assist with maintenance of buildings, facilities, and structures on landfill property.
• May operate Heavy Equipment as needed.
• Complete projects meeting quality, efficiency, and safety standards.
• Attend safety meetings and follow policies to maintain a safe workplace.

Position Summary:

Performs routine and complex repairs on a variety of heavy equipment and other machines in support of landfill operations. Assists with inventory of parts and supplies, schedules repairs and routine PMs, maintains records for all landfill vehicles and equipment.

1. 1. Perform diagnostic analysis of breakdowns and make the necessary repairs to get the machine back in normal operating condition. Perform routine PMs to Heavy Equipment including, but not limited to, dozers, compactors, excavators, rock trucks and other equipment that supports the operations of the landfill.
2. 2. Schedules equipment maintenance and repairs with outside contractors when necessary due to warranty requirements or complexity of repair.
3. 3. Weld in order to make certain repairs to equipment.
4. 4. May be called upon to help with maintenance of building, facilities, and structures on landfill property.
5. 5. May operate Heavy Equipment if needed.
6. 6. Completes all projects in accordance with established standards for quality, efficiency, and safety.
7. 7. Participates in and attends all safety meetings. Adheres closely to all safety policies, procedures, and best practices in order to maintain a safe workplace for everyone.
