Job summary

Carter Machinery Co. Inc. in La Crosse, VA is seeking a Field Service Technician for first shift.

You will troubleshoot, service, diagnose and repair heavy equipment at customer sites, including engines, electrical systems and monitors, while documenting work and ordering parts as needed. The role requires four years of heavy equipment experience, a CDL, and the ability to obtain a DOT medical card; willingness to work overtime is expected.

Qualifications

• Four years’ experience repairing heavy construction equipment (preferred).
• Experience troubleshooting and diagnosing expert level mechanical repairs.
• High school diploma or GED, required.
• Thorough knowledge of engines, transmissions, electrical and related components to troubleshoot and analyze problems quickly.
• Excellent mechanical aptitude.
• Ability to repair Caterpillar and competitive components and machines.
• Excellent driving record and the ability to obtain a CDL.
• Ability to become DOT certified with DOT Medical Card.
• Willingness to work any shift and overtime as needed.
• Strong communication skills (oral and written).
• Self-direction and well organized.
• Proficient use of technical software, databases and manuals.

Responsibilities

• Apply expert troubleshooting techniques and determine proper repair procedures on all assigned work orders.
• Service, diagnose and repair/rebuild engines and components at customer sites.
• Disassemble, inspect and determine parts needed; reassemble to factory specifications.
• Interact with customers and answer repair-related questions; refer non-repair questions to supervisor.
• Perform heavy electrical and computer repairs.
• Interpret operating and service manuals/bulletins.
• Inspect components removed from machines for reusability.
• Prepare parts requisitions, reports, and other forms.
• Document all work clearly and promptly.
• Maintain a clean and safe work area.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
