Job summary

Carter Machinery in Salem, Virginia is seeking a Field Service Technician to diagnose, repair, and rebuild heavy equipment at customer sites. This role demands strong mechanical skills, problem solving, and the ability to work independently while focusing on safety and quality.

We offer a $5,000 sign-on bonus, with $2,500 paid at hire and the remainder after 90 days. Starting pay ranges from $26.88 to $39.07 per hour, with overtime opportunities and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• Four years’ experience repairing heavy construction equipment preferred.
• Excellent diagnostic and repair skills on complex mechanical systems.
• Strong reading and interpretation of manuals and schematics.
• Ability to obtain CDL and pass DOT requirements.

Responsibilities

• Apply expert troubleshooting and determine proper repair procedures on work orders.
• Service, diagnose and repair engines, transmissions, electrical systems and monitors at customer sites.
• Disassemble, inspect and replace parts to factory specifications.
• Document repairs clearly and timely; prepare reports and requisitions.
• Maintain safe, clean work area and tools.
• Communicate with customers and escalate issues as needed.
